Found these on the hard drive of my computer at work. It has so much junk on it that it would be, I’m sure, quite literally impossible to sort or clean up.
Got me first bloody nose of the year this morning as I was jogging. Tried to stem the flow with leaves, bracken, and other debris; partially successful, but ended up with blood all over my face.
As I was walking back to my house, my roommate Jake was coming out to his car. I expected some remark about the blood, but he only mentioned the extreme cold. I don't think he actually looked at me.
No blood last year, due to the somewhat more humid environment of Japan. Gotta remember to bust out the humidifier each night.
Tonight was the homechurch Thanksgiving dinner, and also the last church meeting. Lots of good food, and not many dry eyes by the end of the night. I guess Bill was right with that “parting is such sweet sorrow” bit. Now everyone is making plans about where to go next; it seems that the men are going in two groups, with me staying with Phil and Soulman. I also have an offer to check out churches not in the college group. I’m feeling as if I’m being dragged along by an inexorable tide: if I wanted to, I could exercise total independence, but I don’t want to. We’ll see what the next week brings.
I made the turkey tonight, and it wasn't a total failure. Word.
Latest news is that the Phoenix homechurch is breaking up. This is the equivalent to someone hitting me in the face with a hammer. I don’t really know what to say yet.
EDIT: In reality, my face hasn't been rocked that much. It was just kind of a shock to realize that there's a lot more work in the future, and that I'm not going to see some of my new friends nearly as much. Already the future is starting to show itself, and I think that things'll be good, for the most part.
Gonna try to see that darn new Harry Potter movie tonight. Never got a chance to read the book first... perhaps I'll do a speed-read after work today.
Going to watch 'Zatoichi' tonight, which I first saw with my sister in Exeter. Maybe there'll be a lot of people coming over... maybe too many. I will subject them all to Japanese cinema! Next time it's going to be Battle Royale, which I am *cough* acquiring as we speak. Perhaps some Kurosawa after that.
One o' these days coming up I'm gonna organize a group of people to go Skate on State. Lame name, but should be good times. Ah, yeah, I worked on that page, which is how I know about it.
I had a brilliant idea this morning, which was, instead of buying an expensive chest of drawers, to make a homemade version that would consist of MDF and milk cartons. I have a Lowe's gift card, so the MDF was basically free, and the milk cartons were, uh, also free. Ghetto furniture!
On the way to Lowe's, I pulled up to a stoplight, and heard some familiar music coming from the car next to me. In fact, it was 'Amsterdam' by Guster, off their CD Keep It Together, which I have recently started listening to. Yes, it's stupid: they're one of my favorite groups, and I hadn't really listened to a CD they released two years ago. So I said, mostly to myself, "Hey, it's Guster!" which the driver in the neighboring car heard. So I gave her a thumbs up. It was one of those weird moments when interaction with total strangers doesn't make one want to kill oneself. Unlike last night, when I had to resist the urge to smash a kid's windshield with his face.
